Clapboard House Storefront
The Clapboard House, 207 West Main St., Wise, was opened in the spring of 1979 by Bonnie Aker and Jeannie Aker. The building, one of the oldest in Wise, and historically important, had most recently been the original location of the Wise Lumber and Supply Company. But, way back in the 1920's and 30's, it had been home to N.B. Kennedy Auto Sales. At that time, the front street wasn't even paved..

Today, original owner Bonnie Aker and Son, Travis Kennedy, own and operate The Clapboard House and continue with the original vision of bringing far Southwest Virginia quality furniture, chosen with care, and the areas finest collection of unique gifts and accessories.

The Clapboard House also offers custom draperies, Appalachian Mountain crafts and always a helpful and competent sales staff.

The town of Wise is the county seat of Wise County and is  also home to The University of Virginia at Wise.
