A very special day is planned for The Clapboard House, an Appraisal Day/ Craftsmen Demonstration day, Saturday, May 10, 2008,opening early and starting at 9 AM sharp. If you are a fan of the Antiques Road Show program on public TV, or have an item(s) more than 50 years old that you would like to have appraised, then make plans now to be here.
Denward Johnson, known to all his friends as Deano, and Milton Ellison will both be on hand all day Saturday. Deano and Milton have more than 70 years of combined experience dealing with antiques and collectibles. They enjoy the hunt for items that are rare and depict lifestyles of days past.
Deano specializes the appraisal of antique furniture (over 100 years old), R.S. Prussian, R.S. Germany, Roseville, Hull , Westmorland, Northwood, Millersburg, and other pieces of porcelain and glassware. Deano also has extensive knowledge about books, toys, and dolls.
Milton Ellison deals with coins, script, merchant tokens, mining artifacts, bottles from local towns, advertising items, signs, thermometers, clocks, and local historical pieces. Those wishing to have a free appraisal can bring in up to three items, or pictures of larger items. Additional items can be appraised if time permits.
Several craftsmen will be on hand to demonstrate their wares, or sign their books. Gardner, scroll art ; Lois Bolling for her late brother Jim Roberson’s book, Laughter and Levity in The Law; Laura Miller, artist; and several others.
There will also be refreshments and door prizes. Next door, at our good neighbor First Bank and Trust, customers will also be treated to coffee and donuts.
